The Hero Enters the Fray (勇者、修羅場に突入する, Yūsha, Shuraba ni Totsunyū Suru) is the eighth episode of the Hataraku Maou-sama! anime series.

Summary[]

Chi and Emi stand outside of Mao's apartment complex where Emi was acting as moral support for Chi to confront the person who made Mao's lunch. When they ring the doorbell to Mao's place, Suzuno answers the door leaving Chi in a studdering shock.

Inside Mao's apartment, Chi learns that Suzuno was there only to take care of the chores that Shiro originally does, but couldn't due to his heat exhaustion. Chi also stands by Suzuno's side as she prepares lunch for everyone while complimenting her. When the food was finished being prepared, everyone, but Hanzo enjoyed what Suzuno had made. As they eat, Suzuno mentions needing a job, and Mao suggests working at MgRonald's, which irks everyone. However, Suzuno says she'll consider Mao's job offer.

The conversation takes a strange turn when Suzuno reveals that she has no Western-style clothes, which again surprises everyone. Hence, Chi suggests that Emi take Suzuno out clothes shopping, which she agrees to do.

Later, Emi and Suzuno go clothes shopping, and Mao escorts Chi home as they do. While they walk home, Mao asks Chi if her parents know that Emi visits his pad often, which she claims they do and are fine with. Chi then asks if it's alright if she makes Mao food for him, and Mao considers it, which pleases Chi. She then reveals that she doesn't care about his checkered background as a Demon and still has feelings for him, which embarrasses Mao. However, Chi becomes even more embarrassed when Suzuno appears before them and notes that she was there right when Chi confessed her feelings for him. Absolutely flustered, Chi steals Mao's bike, Dullahan, and rides off on it. Mao then answers Suzuno's question about his thoughts on Chi and then offers to walk her to the station where Emi is waiting for her.

Regrouping with Emi, it's revealed she was under the impression that Suzuno had dropped her wallet and had to retrieve it. Their conversation takes a shocking turn when Suzuno inadvertently reveals that she's from Ente Isla and came to Earth via The Gate. Suzuno is then informed about Emi's true identity, who, in turn, is informed about Suzuno's true identity, motives, and background as the Inquisitor from the Church of Ente Isla. Before Suzuno could offer Emi to join her cause, Emi suggests they press forward as Emi has work later.

After showing Suzuno around a couple of places, the two spend some time at a Moonbucks, where Suzuno reveals she got her fashion sense from old tv dramas. They then discuss Olba's betrayal and how the information that Emi had joined forces with Mao was incorrect. Furthermore, Suzuno assures Emi that not everyone in the church sees eye to eye with Olba's motives and proposes an alliance to defeat Mao. However, Emi refuses, citing the church used underhanded tactics to try and defeat Mao. She also reinforces that taking down Mao is her job and hers alone. She also warns Suzuno of any tactics she'd consider using against him. Before leaving for her job, Emi leaves Suzuno some modern magazines to study concerning her fashion and speech.

Elsewhere, Chi apologizes to Mao for stealing his bike. Later, Mao had to deal with Mayumi, who had a dangerous smile on her face because of the stark drop in customers because of SFC. Not wanting to be shipped to Greenland like her senior, Mayumi allows Mao to use whatever means necessary to boost production sales.

The next day, Mao started his first day as substitute manager for the restaurant and was visited by the manager of SFC Mitsuki Sarue. When he spots Chi beside Mao, Sarue requests that she make a meal for him, which unnerves her. Chi would later complain about Sarue in the breakroom, and Mao would reveal that he sent Shiro as a spy to SFC to gather information on the place.

After finishing work for the day, Suzuno meets with Emi and Rika as they exit their workplace, and Suzuno shows off some of the things she purchased that day. Suzuno also asks for Emi's assistance with Mao, leading to a misconception about Rika.

Trivia[]

1

Suzuno got herself a watermelon (suika)

  • During Suzuno's research into Japan, she learned that suika (suika, 西瓜) -- the Japanese word for watermelon, is used to pay for a trip on a train. "Suica" is also the name of a rail pass.[1]
  • In the manga, it had earlier been shown that Emi's favorite TV shows were Maniac Samurai, and Mito Komon, which was turned into a joke when Suzuno listed her favorite shows, and said that those were two that she didn't care for.
