Summary[]

Sometime after Mao and Shiro's departure from Ente Isla, who was pursued by Emi and Olba. By leaving Ente Island, the Demon Army had no leadership to guide them against the Church of Ente Isla forces, leaving them defenseless against their enemies. Within the Demon King Castle, a lady dressed in white visits the castle and, from a single potted sprouting, creates a small orb of light and comments, "What had gone wrong there?".

At Mao's apartment, Shiro has a temper fit, which Mao has no clue as to why. This prompts Hanzo to opine that Shiro was angry because Mao was working part-time at MgRonald's and how Shiro was stuck in the house as Mao's househusband. However, Shiro denies the comments and claims Hanzo's NEET lifestyle has financially drained the household. Although Hanzo argues that Mao's overuse of the fan to beat the heat, Shiro points out that Hanzo's online shopping addiction is the sole cause. As Shiro subjects Hanzo to his rant about their living condition, Mao sets off for work.

As Mao opens the door to leave his apartment, he bumps into Emi, and Shiro exclaims that Emi was improperly eavesdropping on their conversation. On the other hand, Emi claims their voices were so loud that it was unnecessary and chastised them for their lifestyle complaints, which she overheard. The two then argue a little over their home circumstances, and after they do, Mao senses something, but brushes it off and heads to work. Once Mao was gone, Shiro tells Hanzo that he'll be searching for part-time work himself, and will subject Hanzo to a "household cleaning boot camp" himself.

Arriving at work, Mao is met by Chi, and he introduces his new bike Dullahan II, which was purchased by Suzuno, to her.

Back at the apartment complex, Emi talked with Suzuno, who disclosed she bought Mao a new bike and that her finances were gained by selling items to a place called Mugihyo. Amid their conversation, Emi feels the presence of someone watching them and believes it could be another assassin from Heaven like Sarue. Suzuno, though, denies that possibility, as Sarue at MgRonald's, who had since gained a lot of weight, tries to court Mayumi while Mao and Chi are there. His weight gain was likely due to him ordering ten large meals from the restaurant daily. Despite Mayumi being happy that Sarue contributed to their sales, his gaudy bouquets turned her off. Just then, a young boy named Kentaro, accompanied by his grandmother, order from the place, making Mao think about the strange presence he sensed earlier that day.

Returning to the apartment complex, Shiro instructs Hanzo about how they do laundry and the pros of using a semi-automatic washing machine. As Shiro and Hanzo bickered with each other about the laundry, Suzuno and Emi overheard it and commented how boring and bothersome it was. Continuing Shiro's lecture about laundry to Hanzo, Shiro shows Hanzo how laundry is folded. Amid this, Hanzo senses an unknown presence and believes it to be an intruder from the Demon Castle. However, Shiro denies that notion and leaves to perform some errands while leaving the laundry duties in Hanzo's hands.

After work, Chi asks Mao if it's fine if she visits his apartment to deliver Suzuno something for the Bon Festival, and Mao allows it. On the other hand, Mao believes she shouldn't visit because of his bad feeling as a storm forms in the sky.

Meanwhile, Hanzo vacuums the apartment and faces off against the invisible intruder, but doesn't get the upper hand on it. After this, it starts to rain, much to Hanzo's dismay, because he had hung the laundry to dry. Mao, who returned home with Chi, heard Hanzo screaming as he tried to redo the laundry and discovered that the "intruder" was a cockroach. In the end, Suzuno kills it with her weapon.

Afterward, the cockroach incident was briefly discussed, and they performed the Bon Festival ritual. During it, a Gate opens up, and a giant apple drops out from it. A brawl started by a back and forth between Mao and Emi occurs, and it is stopped when Emi uses her sword to try and attack Mao. Though, her attack never connects because Mao uses the apple as a shield that sprouts arms to grab Emi's sword. The apple then transforms into a little girl and falls asleep after it sneezes.

Inside Mao's apartment, the group sits around the little girl, and when she awakens, she introduces herself as Alas Ramus. Alas, then sneezes again, and when she does, a crescent moon forms on her forehead. Only Mao notices this, and when he asks who Alas' mother and father is, she answers that it's Mao and Emi, which shocks everyone there.

Trivia[]

  • The welcoming fire, or mukaebi, is lit at the start of the obon festival to welcome the spirits of the family's ancestors.[1] Stalks of flax are a traditional item used for this, but any pile of twigs will do.
